Glenn Toddhunter the first Australian amputee military aviator who featured on Australian Story and nominated Queenslander of the Year endorses our group
"The journey of personal adaptation post amputation can be made much easier with assistance from the Amputees and Families Support Group. The group has contacts with local health services to meet specific amputee needs as well as providing advocacy services with state government agencies and other support group sub branches. I highly commend membership with the Amputees and Families Support Group whether in need of assistance or just for the companionship of like-minded people."
Glenn Toddhunter (First Australia amputee military aviator)
(Featured on ABC Australian Story)
“Glenn Todhunter nurtured a love of flying from a young age, and always had aspirations to be a professional pilot. Glenn successfully obtained his private pilots licence at the age of seventeen, even before he had a drivers licence. At nineteen years of age he entered the Royal Military College Duntroon set on a flying career within the Australian Army Aviation Corps. On the 22nd of September 1995 whilst serving as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in Townsville, Glenn was involved in an almost fatal civil aircraft training accident that resulted in bilateral amputations below the knee. After eight years of hard work proving what was possible to the Army, Glenn successfully returned to the military cockpits of helicopters and aeroplanes. Glenn is recognised as the first Australian amputee military aviator, to have served and flown Australian Defence Force aircraft.”
